Week 1- Setting Up My Blog
1) Setting up a new Gmail account was simple and painless for me. However, when I tried to create my Blogger account by clicking "Create Blog" and choosing the email address that I wanted to be associated with the account, I was directed back to the same page time after time. I thought maybe it was because I was using my company computer and they may have restrictions on the website. So, I tried using my personal computer and ran into the same issue repeatedly. Finally, I tried using my personal Gmail account as the associated email address and was able to create the blog. It was frustrating and I was getting nervous that I wouldn't be able to figure it out. I did read that another student had the same problem as well in a discussion on Blackboard.
2)I expect to learn about the creative process and how artists are able to use ideas to create works of art. I also expect to learn about some technical aspects of art such as the different mediums, tools, and styles artists use.
3)I feel confident in my abilities to succeed in an online course and fortunate that I have the opportunity to take one. I have a busy schedule and online learning allows me to receive an education on my own time.
4)The first sentiment that I agreed with from the Growth Mindset videos is that learning new things can be scary and often frustrating. I have felt this way about many new things that I've learned, such as how to parallel park. I also appreciated what John Legend shared about people who are successful aren't the ones who never fail but who keep trying. I think it's important to not become discouraged, especially in academics, even when it feels overwhelming or impossible. With some effort, we are capable of reaching our academic goals. Lastly, I related to the statements about growth versus fixed mindsets in the video. Growing up I believed that those who are successful at something are innately talented rather than having practiced. Now as I'm older I realize that talent may be a baseline but practice and tenacity are what create success.
